Our butterflies are an intrinsic part of our countryside, but more and more species are joining the endangered list and since the times of over collecting during the Victorian era, the threat is now firmly based in the loss of natural habitat, over population and the widespread use of herbicides and insecticides.

Most of our butterfly species depend on a very distinct habitat for their survival and if these habitats are localised to a small area of land, their existence can be fragile balance. Throughout my travels I have always searched for butterflies and this portfolio is a selection of images from my encounters.
